Left: Extensive papillotomy 2 days
after the intervention for massive choledocholithiasis. The biliary tree was filled with stones up
peripheral ductular branches
(see also stone extraction).
The edge of the papilla still shows an
inflammatory
edema. In the upper part of the photo the yawning biliary duct
is seen. Right: 4 weeks later the
inflammation has vanished. The wide biliary orifice
persists. Such a wide papillotomy was only justified by the
massive stone
accumulation in the bile duct.
