Mechanical lithotripsy
Mechanical lithotrypsy Mechanical lithotrypsy spiral
The basket for mechanical lithotripsy in the bile duct shows a very similar design to Dormia retrieval basket, although tensile strength of the wires is much higher. A metal lithotripsy- spiral is pushed over the basket (left: endoscopic picture, right: x-ray) to stabilize the device to the high occurring tractive forces.
Lithotripter with spiral Stone fragments
The tractive forces are mechanically applied to the basketīs wires, which cut the concrement to pieces. In the given example the distal stone is crushed first. The fragments then get extracted one by one from the bile duct. The proximal calculi are handeled in the same way later on.
