| The
basket for mechanical lithotripsy in the bile duct shows a
very similar design to Dormia retrieval
basket, although tensile strength of the wires is much
higher. A metal lithotripsy- spiral is pushed
over the basket (left: endoscopic picture, right: x-ray)
to stabilize the device to the high occurring
tractive forces.

The tractive forces are
mechanically
applied to the basketīs wires, which
cut the concrement to pieces. In the
given example the distal stone is
crushed first.

The fragments then get
extracted one by one from the
bile duct. The proximal calculi are handeled in the
same way later on.
