Infection occurs after ingestion of eggs.
In the cecum the worm develops from
a larva after 1 month. The female worm
carries the eggs to the perianal region
at night. For diagnosis eggs are obtained
by cellotape and are readily visible under
a microscope. Symptoms are perianal
itching at night. Most affected individuals
are children. Continious self- infection can
be responsible for chronic cases.
