Chromoendoscopy in Barrettīs epihelium
Barrettīs epithelum methylenblue Barrettīs epithelum methylenblue
The right picture shows methylenblue- staining of a Barrettīs esophagus. Normal squamous epithelium is stained only weakly, whereas Barrettīs epithelium takes up more dye. Weakly stained areas within the Barrett epithelum would represent centers of dysplasia.
Barrettīs epithelum methylenblue Occasionally mucus adherent to the mucosa is taking up dye. Applying a dilution of acetylcystein prevents this false positive staining to occur.
